WeatherTotals

Terms of use

Effective August 22, 2026

These terms set out the rules for using weathertotals.com, including what you may do with the information and the limits of our legal responsibility. By using the site you agree to these terms.

Acceptance

Using weathertotals.com in any way means you accept these terms. If you do not agree with any part of them, please stop using the site.

What the site is for

WeatherTotals keeps a reference record: measured weather and aurora visibility, both past and current. It is general information, not a warning or forecast service. Before acting on contract, billing, travel, safety or property decisions, consult the original source or a qualified professional. Your local authorities and the National Weather Service are the official sources for warnings, watches and advisories.

The data and its limits

This site draws its data from public sources. Spotter reports appear as filed, and the issuing office may later revise or withdraw them. Station data can be delayed by days. Feeds can be late or unavailable. We show the time of observation on each figure so you can judge for yourself.

No warranty and liability

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no warranty of accuracy, completeness, timeliness or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under the law of England and Wales.

Your use of the site

We welcome normal use of the site.

  • You may read, quote with attribution, link, and take screenshots with a link back.
  • You may use automated access at a reasonable rate, as long as your software identifies itself.
  • You may not use the site in a way that degrades the service for others.
  • You may not republish whole pages as your own.
  • You may not use the site for unlawful purposes.

Intellectual property

Underlying government observations are in the US public domain under 17 U.S.C. 105, so anyone may use them. WeatherTotals owns the copyright in its own text, page design, code, and compiled tables and charts.

Independence from data providers

Neither Iowa State University, the National Weather Service, nor NOAA is affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to WeatherTotals. We name them only to identify where a figure came from.

Email alerts

Email alerts are free. You can end them at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us. Because email providers control delivery, we cannot guarantee it. Alerts may be paused or retired at any time.

Links to other sites

Outbound links go to other sites that operate under their own terms and policies. We do not control them.

Changes

We may update these terms. The revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Continued use after that counts as acceptance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in another jurisdiction, protections that cannot be excluded will continue to apply.
