We send one email per event. The list below shows what triggers one.

Delivery timing depends on email providers, so an update can arrive late. Treat these messages as informational; for dangerous weather, rely on NOAA Weather Radio, Wireless Emergency Alerts, and weather.gov.

What triggers an email

• Aurora emails arrive when the Kp index hits your state's visibility threshold, and include the Kp reading, a timestamp, and that night's cloud cover.
• Snow emails arrive when measured totals start coming in near you, from November through March.
• Rain emails arrive when measured storm totals start coming in near you.
• Hail emails arrive when a spotter reports hail near you.
